Choosing
Three things shape changes.
Sparkle
Brilliant cuts (round, oval, pear, cushion, radiant) scatter light into fire. Step cuts (emerald, asscher) trade sparkle for broad, calm flashes.
Size on the hand
Elongated shapes (oval, pear, marquise) spread their weight over more surface, so they face up larger than a round of the same carat.
What it forgives
Brilliant patterns hide small inclusions and warmth well. Step cuts show everything, so pair them with higher clarity.
